Photographer: Reginald William Skelton (1872-1956). Expedition: British National Antarctic Expedition 1901-04 (Discovery). The first Antarctic flight was an ascent in a tethered hydrogen balloon, named Eva. They reached about 250m. In the photograph men are standing on the ice beside the inflated observation balloon.
