Description
Preparing to launch the lifeboat, "James Caird", into the sea from the shore of Elephant Island. One of 79 photographs from a presentation album of photographs taken by Frank Hurley during the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1914-17, while with the Weddell Sea Party on the ship Endurance and afterwards on South Georgia.
